Detailed description

Recessed-head captive screw with tool access

The PFC2P-M3-40 captive panel screw is a spring-loaded, self-clinching fastener with an M3 × 0.5 thread and a recessed Phillips head. Its cylindrical retainer surrounds the screw head in the retracted position, distinguishing this tool-access configuration from captive screws with exposed knurled knobs.

The product image shows the spring, retainer and screw as an assembly. The captive arrangement keeps the screw with the panel hardware during opening. When reviewing an access-panel design, allow a direct driver path to the recessed head and check the clearance needed for screw movement.

Review mounting and service access

Check the mounting hole, minimum sheet thickness and hole-center-to-edge distance against the panel drawing. Review mating-thread location separately from the retainer envelope. Plan driver access in the assembled product, not just in the loose panel, and validate installation settings for the actual sheet material.

Frequently asked questions

Should PFC2P-M3-40 be selected for finger-only operation?

No. Its recessed Phillips head is a tool-access design. If operators must release the panel by hand, review a suitable exposed-knob configuration and verify its dimensions rather than assuming it is interchangeable.

Is the 40 code the overall screw length in millimeters?

No. The catalog uses 40 as a screw length code. Use the drawing and the G, P, T1 and T2 dimensions to evaluate the assembly instead of specifying a 40 mm overall length.

Does P = 0 mean there is no need to check engagement?

No. P is a dimension in the catalog drawing, not an engagement guarantee. The mating-thread position and panel stack determine engagement; review both before approving the fastener.
